Salt & Light

Salt & Light is a nonprofit ministry in Urbana, Illinois that combines a thrift store and grocery outlet to fight poverty with opportunities for lasting change. Located at 1819 S Philo Road, the organization helps community members access food, clothing, and household goods while building authentic community connections and empowering individuals through work skills development and volunteer engagement. Beginning as an emergency food pantry in 2004, Salt & Light transformed its approach to focus on promoting resilience and human flourishing by rejecting traditional one-way charity models in favor of a relational ministry where everyone contributes and benefits.
