Social Service League Store

The Social Service League Store is Lawrence’s oldest nonprofit charity, founded in 1863 to assist survivors following William Quantrill’s raid. Located at 905 Rhode Island Street, the organization operates a volunteer-run thrift store selling clothing, shoes, household items, and other goods, with proceeds funding multiple community programs including a Vision Program providing free eye exams and glasses, a shoe fund for schoolchildren, and a Prom Dress Room offering formal wear at no cost. The Social Service League serves low-income families and individuals throughout Lawrence and Douglas County, providing both discounted and free merchandise to those referred by local service organizations.
