Safe Combinations

Safe Combinations is a project of Maine TransNet, a nonprofit organization that operates a safe, affirming, and affordable thrift store located at 15 Casco Street in Portland’s Equality Community Center. Founded to serve the transgender and queer community, as well as allies, the store offers clothing, shoes, bags, accessories, and jewelry organized by type rather than gender. All proceeds from the store support the transgender community, and Safe Combinations provides additional services such as free binders and sizing assistance, along with educational information about safe binding practices. The store addresses the financial barriers faced by transgender individuals by offering deeply discounted or free items, particularly gender-affirming clothing and chest-binding garments that are essential for many in the trans community.
