Neighborhood House Clothes Closet

The Neighborhood House Clothes Closet is a nonprofit resale shop operated by Rochester Area Neighborhood House, a human service organization serving low-income and struggling individuals and families in the Rochester area. Located at 44 Mill Street in Downtown Rochester under the Main Street Bridge, the Clothes Closet has been providing new and gently used clothing and small household items to neighbors in need since 1937, when volunteer firefighter Lyle “Red” Knapp founded it to help families affected by fire and tragedy. Beyond serving eligible low-income clients for free, the Clothes Closet also operates as a public thrift store with affordable prices, and offers specialized services including a career corner for interview clothing, a birthday room for children under 12, and family-friendly pricing on quality clothing and household goods for all community members.
