The Grey Nuns Thrift Shop
About
The Grey Nuns Thrift Shop, located at 11 Main Street in Nashua, NH, is a nonprofit organization operated by St. Joseph Hospital that sells donated clothing, housewares, books, and other gently used items to the public. Originally founded by the Sisters of Charity of Montreal in 1997, the shop relocated to its current visible downtown location in 2021. The thrift shop serves a critical community mission by providing affordable goods to underprivileged residents and operates a voucher program in partnership with approximately 30 local agencies including Greater Nashua Mental Health, Marguerite’s Place, and the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter, which distribute vouchers to clients who can shop for free items. Beyond retail, the shop hosts monthly Mission Meals & Medical events where St. Joseph Hospital provides health checks and hot meals to community members. Operating with a team of seven paid staff members and over 20 volunteers, the shop generates sales revenue that covers operating costs with surplus funds supporting its charitable mission to serve the Greater Nashua community.
