About

The Backcountry Peddler is a living history mercantile located at 323 N. Lee Street in historic downtown Salisbury, NC, owned and operated by Janet Pyatt since 2018. The store offers 18th and 19th-century reproduction goods including period clothing, history books with emphasis on the Carolinas, dried herbs, and historical household items for history enthusiasts, reenactors, and interpreters. The business evolved from Pyatt’s home-based herb business started in 2008 and her years as a traveling sutler at historical reenactments throughout the Carolinas and Virginia, eventually expanding to its current permanent storefront in downtown Salisbury’s Railwalk Arts District.
