About

Garbage Tale Vintage is an Indigenous-owned vintage clothing store located at 626 St. Joseph Street in downtown Rapid City, South Dakota. Founded in February 2022 by Caitlin Hein, a Sicangu Lakota entrepreneur, the shop specializes in curated vintage and secondhand apparel from the 1960s through the 1990s, along with house décor and accessories. Hein began her vintage fashion journey in 2018 by selling clothing online through Depop, where she became a top seller, before expanding into physical pop-up shops and eventually opening the brick-and-mortar store. The business emphasizes sustainable and ethical shopping practices, encouraging customers to embrace secondhand fashion as a cost-effective and environmentally conscious alternative to new retail. Beyond retail, Garbage Tale Vintage reflects Hein’s commitment to community involvement and promoting Indigenous-owned businesses in downtown Rapid City, as she actively supports the growth of a diverse local business ecosystem while celebrating her Lakota heritage within her store’s brand.
